Cookies- Part 2

Here's the finished product! Rylan really liked watching the icing change from white to red and green. It was like magic! ;-) Sorry the picture quality is shotty, our flash thought there was enough light in the room. I just had to document Rylan's first Christmas cookie decorating!

It's Christmas Eve and I am SO STINKIN' EXCITED!!!! I woke up at 5:30 this morning without any help, and could NOT get back to sleep! I just laid there, thinking of all the fun, memorable moments to come the next couple days. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning, only I am an adult and it is Christmas EVE morning!

I have already warned Joe not to be a Rylan hog today! I said that we must share him equally. :-) He is such a wonderful little guy! Joe too, but I'm talking about Rylan. He's smart and sensitive, handsome, and silly. When I look into his eyes it's like they are saying, "Teach me everything you can, I want to know it ALL!" He's looking at me now, so precious and unknowing, yet knowing more than I expect him too at the same time.

Can I just say that I LOVE THIS KID?

I am so blessed to be his mom. How could I ask for anything for Christmas, when I have the best gift in the entire world?

Cookies- Part 1

Last night we made sugar cookies for Christmas. Rylan was a big help! Joe put one of his wrinkled up old t-shirts on Rylan to use as an apron. We rolled out the dough and showed him how to use the cookies cutters. He was so intrigued! He had a ball pushing the cutters down and then digging his fingers into the dough! :-)

We soon realized that giving him a little to work with his in chair would be the best course of action.

But he was sneaky, at 13.5 months, he already knows that cookie dough is a sinful and delicious treat! We had to scoop the dough out of his mouth on more than a few occassions!

Rylan knew that we needed to use the baking sheet to put the cookies on after they were cut out.

Of course, you'll need to wear an oven mitt and use a spatula to remove them from the pan!
(He grabbed those himself)

This is about the point where Rylan got cleaned up and decided to call it a night. Making cookies is hard work, but so much fun! Tonight we get to decorate them with icing and sprinkles. I can see the mess already!

Santa comes tomorrow night!

Some witty title about snow

Joe here. We received a little bit of snow over the weekend, followed by some slightly rising temperatures and sunshine, so Rylan decided that this would be the perfect time to try on his new snow suit.

First, we had to make sure Daddy's gloves passed the dinosaur test:

Rar! Check.

Then we suited up and hit the slopes. Rylan mentioned to me that I should probably grab the camera. Good thinking, little buddy.

Does the snow pack right for a snowball?

Too bad. I guess you're safe for now, Mommy.

I talked Rylan into running around the side yard a bit. The wind was pretty fierce at times, and I think the roaring sound around his toboggan* surprised him. He went exploring, and checked on the strawberry plants. He double-checked my xmas light wiring (you never know when another set of eyes can help). After trying to shake the snow off his too-big mittens, he wandered around just taking it all in. What a neat new world this is!

Time to go exploring!

*Around here, toboggan means both the sled and the hat.

A typical Tuesday night

Mmm, spaghetti!

Making sure the tree is still okay.
Helping dad put away dishes...
Actually, I was unloading the dishwasher. Rylan was pulling the bowls out of this drawer (business as usual around here), and then climbing over the rail into the drawer (something totally new around here). I have this sense of future danger, of greying hair, of "get down from there!"; and I just want to tell my parents that I'm sorry. Sorry for the worries, thanks for making sure I didn't jump.
From whatever I climbed up unto.

G'night.

Being Nosey

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!

Rylan grabs my nose when I ask him to grab my nose!!!!

Me: "Rylan grab mommy's nose, go ahead, grab it."

Rylan: Giggles, Then grabs my nose!

Me: "Oh Rylan, you're so smart!"

Wow, the joys are endless, aren't they?
